Google's Monumental $40 Billion Investment: A New Chapter in AI Rivalry
Google-parent Alphabet is set to invest $40 billion in AI startup Anthropic, intensifying its role in the AI race. This investment aims to bolster Anthropic's computing capacity, following their Claude tool's growth and substantial valuation surges. Anthropic continues to expand through strategic partnerships with tech giants.
Alphabet, Google's parent company, will invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, a rival AI startup, marking a profound commitment in the escalating AI competition.
On Friday, Anthropic announced that Google has currently pledged $10 billion in cash, valuing the company at $350 billion, with an additional $30 billion contingent on performance goals. This funding follows Amazon's recent commitment of up to $25 billion to Anthropic, which stands out in the AI industry for its focus on coding model training.
The Anthropic Claude Code tool is gaining substantial popularity among developers, and the company's revenue achieved a remarkable run-rate of over $30 billion. To meet demand for its Claude AI models, Anthropic recently secured multi-year computing deals with Broadcom and CoreWeave. By the year's end, it aims to earn nearly 1 gigawatt of capacity using Amazon's chips.
