Schiphol Airport Announces Largest Investment Plan in History
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport has committed to a 6 billion euro investment by 2029, marking its largest investment plan ever. The plan extends a previous 3 billion euro investment from 2024-2027 for infrastructure improvements. By 2024, the airport anticipates between 65-68 million passengers and 470,000-473,000 flights.
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, one of Europe's principal aviation hubs, announced on Friday its commitment to a 6 billion euro investment by 2029, the largest in its history.
This extends an earlier 3 billion euro investment from 2024 to 2027, focusing on infrastructure renewal and maintenance. 'Our infrastructure is the foundation of our service, but is currently far from what we want to offer our passengers as a quality airport in the Netherlands,' stated Schiphol CEO Pieter van Oord.
For 2024, the airport projects between 65 and 68 million passengers and 470,000-473,000 flights. Despite efforts by the Dutch government to limit flights to about 450,000 annually to reduce noise, industry pressure and EU objections led Schiphol to plan for 483,000 flights this year.
