Applied Materials to Establish AI-Enabled Semiconductor Center in Tamil Nadu

Applied Materials India has signed an MOU with the Tamil Nadu government to set up an advanced AI-enabled technology development Center of Excellence in Chennai, aiming to bolster the local semiconductor ecosystem and create over 500 technical jobs.

Applied Materials India Private Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Tamil Nadu Government to create an advanced AI-enabled technology development Center of Excellence in Chennai. This initiative focuses on enhancing the semiconductor manufacturing sector.

The proposed Center aims to collaborate with local universities and industry partners to fortify the semiconductor ecosystem in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, it aims to develop a capable talent pool to support the growth of the chip industry. As part of this venture, Applied Materials plans to increase its local workforce to over 500 technical positions in the coming years.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, present at the MOU signing in San Francisco, remarked, 'Investment in advanced electronics and semiconductors will help us achieve the $1 trillion economy goal by 2030. We aspire to make Tamil Nadu the most advanced knowledge and innovation hub in South Asia.' Dr. Prabu Raja, President of the Semiconductor Products Group at Applied Materials, stated, 'We look forward to growing our presence in Chennai and advancing AI and analytics in the semiconductor sector.'
