Japan Airlines (JAL) announced on Wednesday that it is conducting independent inspections of its Airbus A350-1000 engines following an engine part failure identified by Cathay Pacific Airways during one of its flights.
As of Tuesday, special in-house inspections of three Rolls-Royce engines had been carried out and found to be safe, according to a JAL spokesperson. The remaining two aircraft are slated for inspection upon their return to Haneda Airport on Wednesday.
Tokyo-based JAL operates five A350-1000s, all of which are less than a year old. Earlier, Cathay Pacific revealed it had inspected its entire Airbus A350 fleet of 48 planes and identified 15 aircraft with components needing replacement after an engine fire incident due to a fuel system leak on a Zurich-bound flight.
