With global demand for Indian spirits on the rise, the government is strategizing to promote both Indian alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in international markets, aiming for USD 1 billion in exports over the next few years.
According to the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India currently ranks 40th globally in alcoholic beverage exports but sees significant unrealized potential.
As part of the 'Make in India' initiative, APEDA is targeting major foreign markets to boost Indian spirit exports. A significant milestone is the planned launch of 'Godawan,' a single-malt whisky by Diageo India, in the UK.
Vinod Giri, Director General of the Brewers Association of India, highlighted the immense potential in markets like the US, Africa, and Europe. He emphasized that while single-malt whisky could enhance India's reputation, premium Indian whiskeys and rum would drive volume sales.
