CAMPCO Cracks Down on Fraudulent Areca Nut Trading

CAMPCO has issued a warning to areca nut traders for misusing membership cards to sell substandard areca nuts. The cooperative identified a trader attempting to sell low-quality nuts under false pretenses. CAMPCO urged farmers to ensure their membership cards are not misused to protect the local areca nut market.

The Central Areca Marketing and Processing Co-operative (CAMPCO) has issued a stern notice to areca nut traders for misusing membership cards to pose as farmers and sell spurious areca nuts. The cooperative discovered a trader attempting to sell low-quality areca nuts from Burma by mixing them with local produce at its Puttur branch.

CAMPCO emphasized that the alertness and diligence of its officials allowed the fraud to be uncovered. The organization called upon its farmer members to be vigilant and avoid encouraging fraudulent activities by safeguarding their membership cards.

Failure to do so, CAMPCO warned, could lead to serious consequences for local areca nut prices, as buyers from North India might stop purchasing from the region if they become aware of such deceitful practices. The cooperation urged its members to exercise extreme caution in these matters.
