Ford Motors Plans a Major Comeback in Tamil Nadu

Ford Motor Company is set to revive operations at its Chennai manufacturing plant for export purposes. This follows sustained efforts led by Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M K Stalin, and Industries Minister TRB Rajaa to attract investments and rejuvenate the state's industrial profile.

American automotive giant Ford Motor announced on Friday its plans to revive the Chennai manufacturing plant for vehicle exports, notifying the Tamil Nadu government of this development.

Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, accompanying Chief Minister M K Stalin on a US tour to attract investors, emphasized that Stalin’s efforts to reestablish ‘Brand Tamil Nadu’ have proven successful. The announcement from Ford marks a significant milestone in these efforts.

Ford's submission of a Letter of Intent to the state government represents a strategic move. The Chennai plant, which had ceased operations in September 2021, is now poised for a comeback. Ford Motors aims to harness Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing capabilities for global markets, reaffirming its commitment to India with plans to expand its workforce in the region.
