Delhi Metro has recorded an unprecedented surge in passenger journeys, with counts ranging between 72 and 78 lakh daily over the past month, an official statement revealed Friday.
In response to this spike, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the deployment of one extra train on all lines every Friday and Saturday. Principal Executive Director (Corporate Communication) Anuj Dayal noted, "The last four days have seen among the highest riderships, hitting a peak of 77,49,682 on August 20." He added that these additional trains might continue on weekdays if the high passenger numbers persist.
This upswing underscores the public's trust in Delhi Metro as a reliable, punctual mode of transport, particularly during extended periods of humidity and rain. The metro's extensive network of 29 interchange stations enhances connectivity, while new digital ticketing channels ensure a smooth commuting experience, officials said.
