India Sets Ambitious Agricultural Production Goals Amid Industry Progress

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced a target of 341.55 million tons for India's agricultural production. At the National Agriculture Conference in Delhi, significant progress in farmers' incomes was noted, and upcoming initiatives such as modern workshops and expanded crop production were discussed for the Rabi season.

In a decisive move to bolster the nation's agricultural output, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced an ambitious target for the annual production of 341.55 million tons. Speaking at the National Agriculture Conference held at the Pusa Institute in Delhi, Chauhan emphasized the impressive strides made by Indian farmers, with incomes in some regions experiencing a triple or even quadruple increase.

The conference, dedicated to the Rabi crop season, was attended by six state agriculture ministers and officials from 31 states. It underscored the government's commitment to the agricultural sector, with minister Chauhan and his colleagues highlighting the rapid advancements benefitting farmers during the Modi government's third term. An initiative was also outlined to gather data to support farmers in regions where income growth has lagged.

Chauhan revealed that effective next month, modern agricultural workshops will be deployed nationwide, bringing together farmers and scientists to address prevalent issues. He also detailed strategies for enhancing grain production, seed quality, and implementing natural farming techniques. Notably, the government aims to boost the production and cultivation area of oilseeds by 2030-31 to address increasing domestic demand for edible oil, alongside unveiling new Agri-Tech initiatives for pest management and quality assurance.
