Brazilian state-run oil company, Petrobras, seeks to bolster relations with Indian oil firms by identifying new avenues for trade and collaboration. The firm's objectives include both buying and selling petroleum products with India while also engaging in cooperative ventures geared towards energy transition.
In a pivotal development, Oil India Limited (OIL), a prominent Maharatna CPSE energy entity, has formalized a collaboration with Petrobras through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi. This agreement aims to facilitate joint exploration and production of hydrocarbon resources within offshore sectors of India. According to Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard, her visit to India represents an opportunity to assimilate insights on the country's oil, gas, and energy transition advancements.
Chambriard highlighted Petrobras's interest in forming alliances with Indian state-run oil companies, underlining the potential benefits in mutual cooperation. She expressed a keen interest in exploring opportunities for buying and selling various products, including ethanol, biodiesel, and petcoke, which are increasingly aligning with sustainable practices.
The potential partnership between Petrobras and Indian entities could significantly propel sustainable energy solutions and bilateral trade within the oil sector. This was emphasized on the sidelines of the India Energy Week 2025, scheduled from February 11 to 14 in New Delhi's Yashobhoomi venue.
Petrobras CEO further remarked on the visit as a strategic move to witness Indian advancements in oil, gas, and transitional energy. By fostering partnerships, Petrobras aims to explore cooperative possibilities with Indian state companies, enhancing energy ties between Brazil and India. Given India's status as a major crude oil importer, such collaborations could diversify energy trade, offering economic advantages to both nations.
