Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Thursday that the Union Budget for 2025-26 is focused on inclusive development, aiming to accelerate growth and stimulate private sector investment. During the Rajya Sabha discussion, Sitharaman highlighted that the budget was formulated amidst significant external challenges that exceeded initial estimates or forecasts.
Sitharaman underlined the government's commitment to maintaining accuracy in assessments while prioritizing India’s interests. She emphasized the efforts to strengthen cooperative federalism and transparency in governance, projecting a 6.4% growth rate in real terms for the economy, according to data from the National Statistical Office (NSO).
The budget projects effective capital expenditure to reach Rs 15.49 lakh crore, an increase from the previous year's estimate. Despite criticisms, the government has not reduced sectoral allocations, distributing funds across agriculture, rural development, urban development, health, education, and defense. A New Employment Generation Scheme is set to support job creation and support employers.
