Indo-UK Telecom Collaboration: A Future in Next-Gen Technologies

Discussions were held on 5G, 6G, and digital security, alongside visits to key research centers, culminating in a Memorandum of Understanding and joint efforts in telecom innovation and standards.

In a significant move to bolster Indo-UK relations, Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal's recent visit to the United Kingdom sought to explore new avenues for collaboration in future-focused technologies like next-generation telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and space technology. Mittal engaged with UK counterparts, including Chris Johnson, National Scientific Adviser, and Dave Smith, National Technology Adviser with the Department of Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT).

The discussions pivoted around emerging technological applications in 5G, 6G, and digital infrastructure security. Furthermore, Mittal met Geoff Huggins, Director of the Digital Directorate for Scotland, to explore cooperative efforts in digital transformation, including telecom security and innovative technological advancements.

Adding to the visit's importance, Mittal toured a Federated Telecom Hub focusing on Cloud and Distributed Computing research and met with various stakeholders to discuss collaboration on 6G innovation and future sensing technologies. The engagement underscored the shared commitment to driving telecom and digital infrastructure innovation, reinforcing the strong foundation already laid by the UK-India Technology Security Initiative. A consequential Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SONIC Labs and the Centre for Development of Telematics to explore Open RAN policies and integrate AI in telecom technologies.
