In a significant step towards eco-friendly coal transportation, South Eastern Coalfields Limited's (SECL) Dipka Megaproject has commenced operations of its newly installed Rapid Loading System alongside Silos 3 and 4. The advancement, guided by the Ministry of Coal, marks a critical milestone in modernizing coal movement in India.
The new Chennai Handling Plant-Silo First Mile Connectivity project is poised to transform coal dispatch efficiency with an annual capacity of 25 million tons, a sizable enhancement from the previous Merry-Go-Round system, which handled only 15 million tons per annum.
With the addition of Silo 3 and 4, the Dipka facility's dispatch capacity has surged to 40 million tons annually. SECL's efforts align with the broader PM Gatishakti Plan, initiating 17 projects with a collective capacity of 233 million tons per annum, highlighting its commitment to sustainable coal logistics.
Currently, nine projects with a capacity of 151 million tons per annum are operational, reflecting the company's dedication to upgrading coal transport methods. The remaining eight projects, totalling 82 million tons per annum, are in various development stages, aimed for completion within the next 2-3 years.
The newly implemented infrastructure at Dipka ensures precise loading, minimizing both underloading and overloading, and significantly improves coal quality while reducing environmental impact by replacing road transport with more sustainable options.
SECL's operations span across 64 mines in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, making it the largest coal-producing company in India. Its strategic initiatives continue to enhance productivity and sustainability in coal transportation.
