Mizoram's connectivity took a significant step forward with the inauguration of a new bailey bridge over the Tuivai river, a crucial project that had been pending for over two decades. Chief Minister Lalduhoma spearheaded the project, highlighting its importance for linking Mizoram and Manipur.
The 250-meter-long bridge on NH-2 restores a critical link between Aizawl district in Mizoram and Pherzawl district in Manipur. Named 'Unity Bridge,' it symbolizes the resolution of long-standing connectivity issues and aims to strengthen ties among the Mizo communities across the border.
Historically, the area faced severe connectivity challenges after the previous bridge collapsed twice due to floods, first in 1990 and again in 1997. With a budget allocation of Rs 5 crore by the ZPM government after their December 2023 tenure commencement, the bridge's construction started in May last year and was prioritized to address ethnic and brotherhood concerns.
