Farmers Fueling Economy: Ethanol Boom and PM-KISAN Scheme Boost

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri underscored the pivotal role of farmers in India's economy in a statement made on Monday. Speaking at the 'Kissan Samman Samaroh' programme, he called farmers the 'backbone' of India's economic framework and stewards of food security.
During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 19th installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme at Bhagalpur, Bihar. This installment facilitated the direct transfer of over Rs 22,000 crore into the bank accounts of 9.8 crore farmers, reinforcing the government’s dedication to agricultural welfare.
Minister Puri did not just stop at recognizing farmers’ traditional roles; he also highlighted their evolving contribution as energy producers. Ethanol blending, which has increased from 1.5 per cent to 19.6 per cent, has led to significant financial benefits, with payments exceeding Rs 90,000 crore to farmers. Following his address, Puri also took the opportunity to honor farmers for their sustained contributions to the economy.
