The Centre has made a call to the corporate sector to establish skill centers in-house, aiming to enhance the employability of graduating youth and boost the hiring landscape, a move confirmed by an official on Tuesday.

Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, emphasized the urgent need for a skilled youth force during an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Under the newly launched Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), the focus is on equipping 1.25 lakh youth with crucial skills in the pilot phase, expanding to one crore over five years.

Corporate icons like ITC, Emami, Reliance, and HDFC Bank are pioneering this initiative. The program is embedded in CSR, rather than traditional HR, providing companies flexibility and benefiting them through a more employable workforce.
