India Achieves Record Harvest: A Bumper Year for Rice, Wheat, and Maize

India's agriculture marks a landmark year with record production of rice, wheat, and maize for 2024-25. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Kharif and Rabi seasons yielded unprecedented volumes, enhancing food security and showcasing the nation's robust agricultural sector amid challenging global conditions.

India has recorded an exceptional year in agricultural production for the 2024-25 season, setting new benchmarks in the yield of major crops such as rice, wheat, and maize. The second advance estimates by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare reveal remarkable figures, highlighting a total harvest of 1,663.91 lakh tonnes for Kharif foodgrains, while Rabi foodgrains reached 1,645.27 lakh tonnes, excluding summer crops.

Kharif rice production soared to 1,206.79 lakh tonnes, up from 1,132.59 lakh tonnes the previous year, reflecting an increase of 74.20 lakh tonnes. Similarly, Rabi rice saw a production estimate of 157.58 lakh tonnes. Wheat output grew to 1,154.30 lakh tonnes, surpassing last year's by 21.38 lakh tonnes. Additionally, Kharif maize stood at 248.11 lakh tonnes, with its Rabi counterpart at 124.38 lakh tonnes.

The data also highlighted significant increases in other crops. Groundnut production rose to 104.26 lakh tonnes from last year's 86.60 lakh tonnes, while soybean production increased by 20.70 lakh tonnes to reach 151.32 lakh tonnes. Cotton and sugarcane production figures were robust, at 294.25 lakh bales and 4,350.79 lakh tonnes, respectively. These estimates, derived from state inputs, reflect a thriving agricultural landscape that bodes well for India's economic stability and food security.
