The airline industry is grappling with an increasing number of hoax bomb threats, with official data revealing that 833 threats have been recorded since 2020. This year alone has seen 15 such incidents, involving major airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and Lufthansa.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, presented these findings to the Rajya Sabha, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the sector. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is spearheading efforts to handle these threats effectively.
Robust protocols mandated by BCAS ensure that these threats have minimal impact on flight operations, with measures like the Bomb Threat Contingency Plan in place to manage crises. The BCAS has also issued advisories for enhanced security measures across the civil aviation sector.
