A tragic collision between a fuel tanker and a cargo ship near the English coast has prompted calls for a comprehensive investigation. The crash involved the Portuguese-flagged cargo ship, Solong, and the anchored tanker, Stena Immaculate, which was carrying military jet fuel.
The collision resulted in significant explosions and a massive fire, leading to the presumed death of one individual. However, the remaining 36 crew members were successfully evacuated and brought to safety on shore.
The International Transport Workers' Federation, representing a vast body of seafarers, insists on a full and transparent investigation involving all jurisdictions concerned. According to ITF general secretary Stephen Cotton, significant questions about the incident remain unclear and should be addressed to prevent future tragedies.
