Cricket Rivals Clash Amid Political Tensions: IPL Match Relocated
The IPL match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians was relocated from Dharamshala to Ahmedabad due to heightened India-Pakistan tensions following an attack in Indian Kashmir. While Pakistan denies involvement and reports downing 25 Indian drones, logistical challenges prompted the venue change.
The Indian Premier League match originally scheduled between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in Dharamshala has been relocated to Ahmedabad. This decision, made by India's cricket board (BCCI), arises amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
India launched multiple strikes in Pakistan this week after blaming its neighbor for an April 22 attack targeting Hindu tourists in Indian Kashmir, a claim Pakistan denies. In retaliation, Pakistan reported shooting down 25 Indian drones overnight. This geopolitical unrest has impacted flights in Dharamshala, a major regional airport.
The BCCI cited logistical challenges as the reason for the change in venue but assured fans the match will proceed at 3:30 PM IST as per the original schedule. Meanwhile, Dharamshala will host a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals later on Thursday as planned.
