In a tragic event that shook the nation, an Air India plane crash resulted in the loss of 270 lives. Four days post-crash, officials have managed to identify 119 victims through DNA matching techniques. So far, 76 bodies have been handed over to grieving families, including that of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani.
The ill-fated Air India flight AI-171, en route to London, crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. Identification efforts are being hampered as many bodies were severely damaged or charred beyond recognition. Authorities, however, are hopeful that DNA profiling of all victims will conclude shortly, with expectations set for completion by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, Dr. Rakesh Joshi, has emphasized the importance and delicacy of the process. Despite pleas from distressed families due to the delay, he urges understanding given the legal complexities involved. The crash, tragically, not only took 241 lives on board but also claimed 29 additional lives on the ground.
