The Indian space sector is on the brink of a transformation, as stated by Bharat Bhatia, President of the ITU-APT Foundation of India (IAFI), during the 2nd India Space Policy Conference held in New Delhi. Bhatia highlighted the tremendous potential for job creation and new investments as the country opens its space sector to private enterprises.

The IAFI has been proactive for the past 20 years in promoting the integration of professionals, corporate entities, industries, R&D organizations, and educational institutions with bodies like the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT). According to Bhatia, India's evolving policies in the space sector will lead to significant job and investment opportunities, similar to developments seen in the United States.

The liberalization of India's space sector and the establishment of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) have paved the way for increased participation by non-governmental entities. The number of Indian space start-ups has dramatically risen from just one in 2014 to 266 by the end of 2024, according to government records. Bhatia expressed confidence that Indian companies will gain numerous opportunities within the space arena, echoing growth trends witnessed globally.
