A tragic road accident on one of Uganda's busiest highways claimed at least 63 lives, according to a police statement released on Wednesday. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on the highway connecting Kampala to the northern city of Gulu.
Preliminary investigations into the cause of the crash indicate that two buses were involved in dangerous overtaking maneuvers when they collided head-on. The buses, traveling in opposite directions, were overtaking a lorry and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) at the time of the incident, the Uganda Police Force stated on X.
"Sixty-three people lost their lives, all occupants from the involved vehicles," the statement disclosed, highlighting the severity of this tragic event that has shaken the nation.
