Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assessed the progress of the Yamuna Boat Tourism and Ferry Infrastructure Development Project on Tuesday. This venture is designed to introduce recreational boat cruises and ferry services to both residents and tourists in the National Capital.
The initiative is located upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage and runs between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. It aims to offer a green tourism experience coupled with better connectivity through eco-friendly river travel. Official statements revealed that the project has an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.
As part of an effort to bolster inland water transport and urban tourism, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is constructing a 6–7 km round-trip corridor using electric-solar hybrid boats. The corridor will function as a hub for eco-friendly cruise operations, marking a significant step toward sustainable and modern waterway travel.
