The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has embarked on a technological leap, utilizing underwater robotic vehicles for the meticulous inspection of its vital railway bridges. These advanced Remotely Operated Robotic Vehicles (RORVs) are pivotal in assessing critical structures like the Saraighat bridge, ensuring their integrity and safety.
The NFR employs a sophisticated mix of technologies, including RORV surveys, LiDAR, thermal imaging, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) tests, to evaluate the historic Saraighat bridge's substructures. This comprehensive assessment covers essential components like pier caps and well foundations, ensuring no detail is overlooked.
Spanning 1.45 km and connecting crucial regions, the Saraighat bridge is a vital link in the North East railway network. Through RORV inspections, NFR has ensured 18 additional bridges' safety, guaranteeing they remain defect-free underwater. These advancements enhance NFR's structural health monitoring and support proactive maintenance strategies.
