The government of Himachal Pradesh announced that Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) are now empowered to distribute permits for 400 e-rickshaws across over 25 subdivisions, marking a significant move towards eco-friendly public transport.

The decision, formalized through a new notification under Section 113 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, specifically enables RTAs to authorize e-rickshaws in various areas, including Palampur, Dharamshala, Chamba, and others, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to the notification, e-rickshaws will be confined to a 20-kilometer radius within their designated subdivision headquarters. Existing auto-rickshaws with valid permits will remain unaffected by this rule change, while efforts to boost green transport continue.
