On Wednesday, the Delhi government announced an ambitious target to halve road crash incidents by the year 2030. This decision emerged from the first State Road Safety Council meeting held in two years, chaired by Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh.
With a focus on protecting vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists, and schoolchildren, the Road Safety Work Plan for 2025–2030 features the implementation of Safe School Zones in 100 schools in its initial phase. Furthermore, the council discussed measures like Zero Tolerance Zones on critical roads with precise bus-lane markings and the deployment of AI-based cameras for surveillance.
The meeting also covered victim-support initiatives such as the Cashless Treatment Scheme and others. As part of a collaborative effort, the council outlined plans for a Delhi Road Safety Summit in 2026 to bring together experts and stakeholders. Officials expressed optimism that these integrated efforts would significantly improve road safety across the city.
