In a tragic incident on the Ayodhya-Prayagraj highway, three devotees lost their lives and eight others sustained serious injuries. The accident involved an SUV carrying pilgrims which collided with a tractor-trolley early Thursday morning, according to police reports.
The crash happened around 5 am near Kalyan Bhadarsa village, when the driver of the SUV, coming from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, is believed to have dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane. This resulted in a head-on collision with the tractor-trolley, police reported.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where eight SUV passengers were ejected from the vehicle and taken to a local health center before being referred to the district hospital. Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain whether the tractor-trolley was moving at the time of impact. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences and ordered urgent relief measures.
