The Jammu division of Northern Railway has taken a progressive step in enhancing security by replacing traditional lac sealing with lead wire sealing in parcel Seating Cum Luggage Rakes (SLRs). The new sealing system uses a plunger with an engraved station impression, reducing fire risks and improving ease of use, according to an official statement on Saturday.

This development is part of the railway administration's broader effort to ensure the safety of both railway premises and transported goods. In a further upgrade, the division is set to replace ICF coaches with LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches in Train No 19224/19223, Sabarmati BG - Jammu Tawi Express, starting January 1 next year. This change promises passengers a safer and more comfortable travel experience, as stated by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal.

The new LHB coaches are designed to enhance safety with features like an anti-telescopic design and Centre Buffer Coupler (CBC), reducing casualties in the event of an accident. Known for hydraulic suspension and improved ventilation, these coaches also support higher operational speeds, marking a significant step towards modernizing rail transport for heightened passenger safety and comfort.
