In response to rising accidents due to dense fog, Uttar Pradesh highway authorities have stepped up safety measures on expressways. Officials reported 25 deaths from fog-related collisions as precautions were tightened, including a potential speed limit reduction proposal set for government review.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have launched state-wide initiatives to improve visibility and raise awareness among motorists. New advisories and real-time fog condition updates at toll plazas are part of the heightened efforts.
Accidents attributed to poor visibility prompted immediate actions. Known for rigorous rear-end collision risks, expressways like the Purvanchal and Taj are subject to daily monitoring, while special accommodations for riders and distribution of reflective materials aim to enhance commuter safety during the fog season.
