The government has greenlit the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for pivotal highway projects across Dakshina Kannada, a region represented by BJP MP Captain Brijesh Chowta. The approved projects aim to widen the Surathkal-BC Road and add much-needed service roads along NH-66 from Talapady to Kundapur, a significant step towards easing traffic woes.

Highlighting the importance of these corridors for connecting Mangaluru city to the New Mangalore Port, Chowta emphasized that the absence of service roads and current capacity issues have resulted in crippling congestion and elevated safety risks. This approval is expected to lay the groundwork for robust road infrastructure on the coastal belt.

Chowta's persistent advocacy with both the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Highways Authority of India has been instrumental. The approval was achieved following discussions in the 2024 Monsoon Session of Parliament and the subsequent DISHA committee meeting. The approved DPR will guide future alignment, safety, and management needs, ensuring the projects' successful execution. Chowta extended his gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and NHAI officials for their prompt response and support.
