Liquor sales in the national capital surged by 6% in the financial year 2024-25 compared to the previous year, despite a notable decline in Indian beer sales. Over a three-year span, beer sales dropped from 92,52,429 cases to 70,26,220 cases, reflecting an adverse trend.

The retail trade's recovery has been closely monitored following the abrupt withdrawal of the 2021-22 excise policy, which faced allegations of irregularities. The erstwhile Delhi government retracted the policy in July 2022 due to these controversies.

Looking forward, the Delhi government anticipates launching a new excise policy by the fiscal year 2026-27, indicating a shift in strategy amid fluctuating sales figures and ongoing industry challenges.
