The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken decisive action by terminating its user fee collection contract with Skylark Infra Engineering Pvt Ltd. This step followed reports of misbehavior by the agency towards a highway user at the Bara Fee Plaza in Uttar Pradesh.
On January 14, 2026, an incident occurred on the Lucknow-Sultanpur section of NH-731 where the agency allegedly assaulted a user. In response, NHAI issued a show cause notice demanding an explanation and recommended barring the agency from future NHAI projects for a year.
The proposal also includes the forfeiture and encashment of Skylark's bank guarantee and performance security, amounting to Rs 5.3 crore, submitted for the current contract. This underscores NHAI's commitment to ensuring safety and accountability on its toll roads.
