Indonesian authorities have located the wreckage of a fisheries surveillance plane that went missing near a fog-covered mountain in South Sulawesi province. Efforts to find the 11 people onboard are ongoing, according to officials on Sunday.
The ATR 42-500 turboprop, owned by Indonesia Air Transport, lost contact with air traffic control on Saturday afternoon around the Maros region. The plane, chartered by the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry, carried eight crew and three ministry staff members as passengers.
Rescuers discovered debris from the aircraft on Sunday morning at various locations around Mount Bulusaraung, approximately 1,500 km northeast of Jakarta. The operation, led by 1,200 personnel, faces challenges due to mountainous terrain and thick fog. The National Transportation Safety Committee is investigating the crash, with no cause yet determined.
