The much-anticipated India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, celebrated as a milestone in international trade relations, is slated to be implemented next year, following the closure of negotiations. This agreement marks a significant economic partnership between India, the fourth largest economy, and the EU, the second largest, comprising a quarter of the global GDP.

Significantly, over 99 percent of Indian exports will gain preferential entry into the European Union's market, unlocking substantial growth potential across diverse sectors. Labour-intensive industries such as textiles, leather, and gems stand to benefit immensely, with tariffs on nearly USD 33 billion worth of exports poised to drop to zero on the pact's initiation day. Simultaneously, the pact promises a well-balanced liberalisation in the automotive sector, bolstering 'Make in India' initiatives.

This agreement is poised to enhance mobility for skilled Indian professionals and expand cooperative frameworks in digital services and high-tech investment, facilitating a boost to India's service exports. It also includes strategic measures for regulatory cooperation, ensuring transparency, and eliminating non-tariff barriers which fortifies a predictable trading environment. Thus, this agreement not only establishes new trade channels but also fortifies economic ties between India and the EU.
