The announcements came during a press briefing that underscored the substantial fiscal push that has catalyzed railway modernization in these states.
Tamil Nadu's allocation soared from Rs 879 crore in 2014 to Rs 7,611 crore in the proposed 2026-27 budget, facilitating large-scale projects and enhanced services, including the installation of India's indigenous Kavach train protection system. Meanwhile, Kerala's budget was marked by a landmark Rs 3,795 crore allocation, driving significant infrastructural and safety improvements.
The initiatives include the redevelopment of major stations under the Amrit Bharat Station programme and the construction of vital rail flyovers and under-bridges aimed at reducing level crossings.
