The Delhi government is set to enhance its welfare initiatives by introducing free sugar distribution to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries, reaching over 65,000 ration card holders. This effort, commencing in January 2026, reflects a significant step in supporting the city's most vulnerable populations with essential commodities.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared last month that the administration would begin the distribution process by procuring 600 quintals of sugar monthly. These provisions will be supplied in one-kilogram packets, which are environmentally friendly and certified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Attached to over 1,600 fair price shops, the AAY category beneficiaries, under a scheme aimed at providing for elders, migrant workers, and specially-abled persons, will benefit from this initiative. The Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC) is conducting a tendering process to select a vendor suitable for this task, ensuring the standards of storage and distribution are met efficiently.
