The Union Shipping, Ports and Waterways Ministry has put forth a proposal for ports to consider requests regarding the reduction, waiver, or remission of various charges due to the ongoing West Asia crisis. A standard operating procedure (SoP) has been established, following thorough consultations with stakeholders.

Each port will designate a nodal officer, tasked with liaising on issues for rapid resolution. The officer is expected to engage with the authorities and ensure actions are taken within 24 to 72 hours. Periodic meetings with stakeholders, including shipping lines, exporters, and customs officials, are essential for monitoring and addressing concerns.

The ministry emphasized potential measures such as storage rent adjustments and additional cargo handling capabilities. Special attention is given to ensuring the timely handling of perishable goods, as well as exports returning from the Middle East. Coordination with Customs and other authorities is crucial for implementing these measures promptly.
