The Subway Standoff: MTA Sues Trump Administration
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking nearly $60 million in withheld funds for New York City's Second Avenue Subway project. The breach of contract suit follows funding suspensions tied to political pressures during previous government shutdowns, impacting key infrastructure projects.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) took legal action against the Trump administration on Tuesday, claiming that nearly $60 million in funding for a crucial New York City subway project was unjustly withheld.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, argues that the U.S. Transportation Department suspended payments for the $7.7 billion Second Avenue Subway development at the onset of last fall's government shutdown.
New York's Governor Kathy Hochul criticized the funding halt, asserting that it jeopardizes essential infrastructure investments. She accused Trump of using the funding pause as political leverage against local leaders, echoing previous funding disputes over other critical projects like the Hudson Tunnel.
