Airfare increases loom as jet fuel prices surge due to the ongoing West Asia conflict. Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has climbed to a historic Rs 2.07 lakh per kilolitre, prompting expectations of rising airfares as airlines grapple with higher costs.
The unprecedented fuel price surge has doubled ATF costs, pushing it past the Rs 2 lakh per kilolitre mark for the first time. The hike significantly affects airlines' operational budgets, which already contend with turmoil in West Asia. With ATF representing 40% of operational costs, airlines foresee increased ticket prices.
Indian carriers are particularly challenged by longer flight routes due to regional airspace curbs. Airlines like Air India and IndiGo are likely to continue implementing fuel surcharges. IATA confirms fare hikes amid tight capacity and slim margins, as the conflict's duration remains uncertain.
