Jet Fuel Prices Skyrocket Amid Global Tensions
Jet fuel prices have soared to unprecedented levels due to global tensions affecting energy markets. Jet fuel prices in India have hit a record high, doubling to Rs 2.07 lakh per kilolitre, as state-owned oil companies pass on only a partial increase to domestic airlines. This calculated move aims to mitigate the impact of a global surge in energy prices linked to ongoing conflicts.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has explained that ATF prices were deregulated two decades ago and are routinely adjusted to match international benchmarks. However, the closure of strategic seaways and global market disruptions have necessitated this unprecedented price adjustment for domestic markets.
Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu described the tempered price rise as a 'pragmatic and forward-looking' strategy to protect passengers from sharp fare increases and ensure economic stability. While foreign airlines face full price lifts, the aviation sector strives for balance amid rising costs and operational challenges.
