Telangana Demands Urgent Rice Procurement and Funds Release

In a significant push, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met with Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi, pleading for central intervention regarding rice procurement. The demand was set at 30 lakh tonnes of boiled rice, highlighting a substantial need due to booming demand across the nation.

Telangana's 2026 rabi season production is pegged at 90 lakh tonnes, suitable for milling boiled rice, prompting the state's readiness to supply. The CM further pressed for Rs 1,468.94 crore dues release from past procurement seasons, coupled with a request to resume the halted Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) scheme.

Union Minister Joshi responded positively, granting in-principle approval. Discussions included state delegates and union food ministry officials, reflecting the critical nature of ensuring nutritional programs continue unhindered.
