Gambling with Grades: Hotels Downgrade for Dollars

Goa's Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, accused several hotels of intentionally downgrading their ratings to evade higher government fees, resulting in state revenue loss. Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte alleged on Friday that several star-rated hotels in the state are intentionally downgrading their ratings to dodge higher government fees.

This practice is reportedly leading to significant revenue losses for the state. Khaunte mentioned that even five-star hotels are opting for lower categories to minimize costs.

In a proactive move, a team led by Tourism Director Kedar Naik has been assigned to inspect tourism enterprises across Goa, ensuring that hotels are correctly categorized and compliant with registration and renewal requirements.
