Mumbai Nurse Falls Victim to Rs 1 Lakh Online Shopping Scam

A nurse in Mumbai lost Rs 1 lakh through an online shopping fraud. She was enticed by a Facebook ad offering dresses for Rs 299 and ended up paying fees under various pretexts to a scammer over five days before realizing the deception. The police have initiated an investigation.

The nurse stumbled upon a seemingly lucrative offer on Facebook, advertising dresses for just Rs 299. However, the transaction quickly escalated as the scammer demanded additional payments for dubious charges like shipping, GPS, and verification fees.

After realizing the fraudulent activity, the nurse contacted the Cyber Crime Helpline and filed a complaint at the local police station, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Deonar police. This case underscores the crucial need for vigilance in online transactions.
