Emergency Evacuation: Swiss Plane Aborts Takeoff in Delhi
A Swiss International Air Lines flight bound for Zurich aborted its takeoff in Delhi due to an engine issue, leading to a full emergency and the evacuation of 245 people. Four passengers were injured. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau will probe the incident to determine the cause of the engine problem.
A Swiss International Air Lines aircraft bound for Zurich faced an emergency situation after aborting takeoff at Delhi airport due to an engine issue early on Sunday morning. The incident led to the evacuation of all 245 people on board, including 232 passengers and 13 crew members.
According to officials, the aircraft, identified as an A330-300 with registration HB-JHK, was forced to halt its takeoff attempt around 1 am following indications of smoke from its port side wheel. Subsequently, a full emergency was declared as a precautionary measure, during which four passengers sustained injuries.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is set to investigate the incident further. Airport operations were reported to be unaffected, and the airline has assured continued support to the affected passengers, with accommodations and alternative flights arranged.
