A fatal collision between a pick-up van and an SUV has claimed 16 lives in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, officials reported on Thursday. The incident unfolded as a laborer-filled van overturned near the Chikliya crossing, colliding with an SUV on the Indore-Ahmedabad National Highway.

Initially, twelve deaths were confirmed post-collision, with four additional victims later succumbing to their injuries. The unfortunate event has prompted reactions from officials such as Indore Divisional Commissioner Dr Sudam P Khade, who noted the gravity of the accident.

Authorities, including PM Narendra Modi and MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, have assured of comprehensive care for the injured. Meanwhile, a police investigation is underway, and compensation for the families of the deceased and injured has been announced.
