Government Grants Vodafone Idea Lifeline with AGR Dues Slash & Payment Moratorium
Vodafone Idea receives a significant relief package as the Indian government lowers its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) liability by 27% to Rs 64,046 crore. A five-year moratorium on these payments has also been granted, allowing the telecom company to manage its substantial financial obligations more effectively amid ongoing market challenges.
In a major development, Vodafone Idea has been granted substantial financial relief by the Indian government, as its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) liability saw a significant reduction of 27% to Rs 64,046 crore, following a detailed reassessment by the Department of Telecom.
The government has also approved a five-year moratorium on these payments, providing the beleaguered telecom company a much-needed lifeline amidst its financial woes. This move follows a favorable decision from the Supreme Court, allowing the government to revisit AGR demands for the period up to the fiscal year 2016-17.
Additionally, Vodafone Idea is required to clear its dues over an extended period, with payments stretching up to 2041, ensuring a structured approach to addressing its debt, which was recorded at Rs 2.09 lakh crore as of December 31, 2025.
