MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has condemned the recent substantial increase in the price of commercial LPG cylinders, calling for an immediate rollback by the Union government. Vaiko, whose party is in alliance with the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, expressed strong disapproval of the nearly Rs 1000 per cylinder hike, attributing it to the rise in crude oil prices amid international tensions like the US-Iran conflict.
The MDMK leader highlighted the plight of the restaurant industry, which has faced significant disruptions over the past two months due to the higher cooking gas prices. He noted that the price of a 19 kg cylinder has surged by Rs 993, bringing the selling price to Rs 3,239.
This steep rise, he emphasized, not only affects the commercial sector but also puts additional financial strain on the public as it increases food prices. Vaiko has urged the union government to immediately reverse the price hike to mitigate these adverse effects.
