Tragic Accident Claims Life of Lorry Driver in Onnakavu

A lorry driver named O T Mathai, also known as Kunjumon, tragically died when his vehicle overturned in Onnakavu. Despite residents' efforts, they couldn't free him from beneath the vehicle. Fire services later rescued him, but he was declared dead at the hospital. Police are investigating.

In a tragic incident in Onnakavu, a tipper lorry driver was killed after his vehicle overturned on Saturday, local police reported. The deceased, identified as 56-year-old O T Mathai, also known as Kunjumon, was driving a vehicle owned by V C Mathew at the time of the accident.

The mishap occurred at approximately 10:30 am, as the lorry was being maneuvered out of a parking shed in Aruvikkal near Onnakavu. The vehicle went out of control, striking a compound wall before tumbling onto the road and overturning, according to police accounts. Unfortunately, Kunjumon became trapped underneath the vehicle due to the impact.

While local residents rushed to the scene and attempted to lift the truck, their efforts proved unsuccessful. Fire and Rescue Services eventually arrived, lifted the vehicle, and transported Kunjumon to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. The Perumpetty police have initiated an investigation into the accident and will release the body to relatives following a post-mortem examination.
