Goa's Workforce Boost: Unions Applaud New Welfare Schemes

Labour unions and industry representatives in Goa have warmly welcomed the suite of welfare schemes introduced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, describing them as pivotal for empowering the state’s workforce. At a May Day function, Sawant recognized the crucial role of the working class in Goa’s economic landscape and unveiled several supportive measures.
The announced initiatives include financial compensations and educational support: a Rs 50,000 compensation for families of deceased workers, Rs 25,000 for injured workers, digital literacy training, and coaching for competitive exams for workers' children. Additional benefits comprise tuition fee reimbursements and accident insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
Industry figures like Ashley Lazarus Dias commend these measures, noting that digital skills are vital in a tech-centric job market. Labour leader Puti Gaonkar emphasized the positive impact of the Rs 15,000 incentive for work excellence. Overall, these schemes are seen as transformative steps towards enhancing the quality of life for Goa’s workers.
